Our Most Important Funding Event of the Year
Sample Text, from Clallam County… your text will vary…: The funding for many of the Programs you enjoy comes from our Spring Plant Sale. Our Educational Lecture Series, “Green Thumb Gardening”; our Woodcock Demonstration Garden; The 5th Street Community Garden as well as free Youth Gardening Classes, all are made possible due to funds we generate from our Spring Plant Sale.
Creating a ‘Pop-up Nursery’ for just one day per year requires a lot of effort from our Master Gardener Volunteers. Read below to learn more.
It’s Coming: Spring Plant Sale Date
Note, this ‘Promotional Block’ announcing the coming of the plant sale is moved onto this page around the first of the year; Once the Plant Sale is finished, swap out this with the “Thank You for a Successful Sale” block, located on the Promotions Page; then finally, a month or two later, you swap in the “The Preparation Starts” promotion block. Sample text: Save the Date! This mid-spring community tradition is the official kick-off to gardening season—shoppers will find a great variety of native plants, veggie and herb seedlings, and perennial plants and shrubs. Every year is a bit different, as most of the plants are grown and/or donated by Master Gardeners. There is also a ‘General Store’ of gently-used tools and garden-related items. Proceeds from the Plant Sale support the numerous Master Gardener community education services.
The process begins with growing as many sale plants as we can.
Starting thousands of plants from seeds, cuttings and divisions
After Labor Day, our volunteers begin the process of growing new plants for the next year’s plant sale. We take cuttings from existing plants, divide bulbs and grasses. With the new year, we begin planting thousands of plants from seed, timed so that they are the right size for planting when the plant sale arrives. We use our yards and greenhouses and good old fashioned growing know-how to do our best to bring you a large selection of quality plants.
It all comes together … Date
Popping up and popping back down over a weekend
Once we’ve marshaled all our resources, we start on the Monday of the last week in May training volunteers on all the aspects of running our two day nursery. We want you to have the best possible experience while shopping for the broadest possible array of plants. All at a reasonable price. It is a lot of work, but everyone involved grows from the experience. It is one of the most rewarding ways for us to provide you the plants you want while bringing in the revenues we need in order to fund our programs throughout the year and expand our services across the years.
